Ga Li E Li Ga!

Congratulations to the Mashpee Wampanoag on their successful fight for federal recognition. The tribe that met the Pilgrims now rejoins the ranks of sovereign nations. And, in a startling contrast to the truculent anti-Indian bigotry of nearby Connecticut, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Senator Edward M. Kennedy and local Congressman William Delahunt all called Chief Vernon "Silent Drum" Lopez to offer good wishes.
