Just a simple Cherokee trial lawyer, Barkman has been forcing his opinions on others in print since, for reasons that passeth understanding, he was an unsuccessful candidate for state representative in 2002. His philosophy: "If people had wanted me to be nice, they should've voted for me."

NPR Misses the Point Entirely

Today's story on the Freedmen controversy completely failed to mention the paradox of the "Indian blood" argument in relation to the "one drop" rule imposed by the Dawes Commission. It falsely implied that none of the Freedmen have "Indian blood" and intimated (in spite of a surprising quote from Chad Smith to the contrary) that this was all about casino money. Overall, a really sloppy job of reporting.
