Just a simple Cherokee trial lawyer, Barkman has been forcing his opinions on others in print since, for reasons that passeth understanding, he was an unsuccessful candidate for state representative in 2002. His philosophy: "If people had wanted me to be nice, they should've voted for me."

Blue Tide

E.J. Dionne, Jr. writes about a trend that hasn't hit Texas yet: the blue-ing of the suburbs and exurbs. He also picks up on a historical meme I have mentioned before: the Republican Party's gentrification into a sullen regional party, much like the Democrats from 1870 until 1932.

Is Bob Kerrey really thinking of running for the Senate again? I was just thinking of him the other day, wondering what he was up to and musing about whether he would be on anyone's (by which I mean Hillary's) short list for VP.

First I heard he was definately for sure running for Senate, now I hear he isn't, so who knows? I doubt he would be a VP prospect, as he wouldn't really help Hillary with any constituency she needs help with. Also, he's more articulate than her, so his nomination would violate the Quayle Iron Rule of Running Mates.
