Just a simple Cherokee trial lawyer, Barkman has been forcing his opinions on others in print since, for reasons that passeth understanding, he was an unsuccessful candidate for state representative in 2002. His philosophy: "If people had wanted me to be nice, they should've voted for me."

Yeah. That'll do a lot of good.
Still, I always admire Carter's sincerity and consistency as a moral crusader for the downtrodden. He's the only president in my lifetime who is a true Christian in any meaningful sense of the word.
He did much the same thing when supervising an election in either Nicaragua or El Salvador (I forget which) about 10 years ago, actually got into a shoving match with soldiers who were intimidating voters. One of them later remarked, that one has huevos!
