Just a simple Cherokee trial lawyer, Barkman has been forcing his opinions on others in print since, for reasons that passeth understanding, he was an unsuccessful candidate for state representative in 2002. His philosophy: "If people had wanted me to be nice, they should've voted for me."

Couple of Things

  1. The MSM regurgitates GOP talking points (in this case regarding reform of the FISA Court and reining in warrantless wiretapping) that are easily verifiably false. What a surprise, huh? Only this time, Congress pushes back. Hard. And the MSM (in this case Time) is pissed. Good.
  2. The DNI unexpectedly and against his previously-stated opposition, releases a public summary of the NIE. And it shows that, shockingly enough, the Bush Administration and the Serious Foreign Policy Experts were absolutely, positively dead-wrong about Iran's quest for nukes. Why would the DNI do this? Not (apparently) pressure from Congress. My guess is that either he is in the Condi Rice camp and trying desperately to avert a disastrous preemptive strike on Iran by the Cheney or he is trying to CYA in case the Cheney attacks Iran anyway. Or both. And Bush and Cheney have apparently, since they learned of the report a year ago, been subtly shifting their rhetoric to justify an attack with or without Iranian nukes. Oh, and the Right-Wing Blogosphere despairs.

Yesterday Upon the Stair...

...I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. He must be Vice President of the USA.

Craddick Beats House Into Submission

Craven Republicans beg for mercy from their newly re-annointed Dread Overlord as he is carried into the Royal Chamber on a golden litter borne by 14 stout Democratic bootlickers. Once again, from the Dick Cheney White House, to Tom DeLay, to Tom Craddick, we see very clearly what it takes to be a Republican today: have your spine removed and become a lickspittle minion. That rumbling sound you hear? That's Abraham Lincoln spinning in his grave at the transformation of the GOP into a gang of cowardly, toadying sycophants. Pathetic.

Don't Let Cheney Hear About This!

Robert Mugabe, the repulsive, crypto-fascist, racist kleptocrat of Zimbabwe has decided to save money in the country he has repressed into economic collapse by CANCELLING THE 2008 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS.

Sheer Brass Monkeys

The White House rubs its grubby little hands together with glee at the prospect of political gains from an apparently narrowly-averted brutal terrorist mass-murder. Meanwhile, Big Dick Cheney worries that Connecticut voters are emboldening "the al Qaeda types" by shamelessly refusing to vote for the candidate the White House preferred. One imagines Osama bin Laden in his cave anxiously surfing the blogosphere. "Well, I was gonna call off this whole war against the Great Satan, but now that the Democrats have nominated Ned Lamont, JIHAD!!!"

Mr. Popularity

Fewer than 100 people showed up in Waco to hear Vice President Dick Cheney stump for congressional candidate Van Taylor, much less than the 400 who came in 2004 when he campaigned for Arlene Wohlgemuth. In all fairness, though, back then, people weren't generally afraid that Cheney might shoot them...

Not Holding My Breath

A conservative website claims that Dick Cheney will resign after the midterm elections. This seems ludicrous to me. First, Cheney would never leave unless the President asked him (and maybe not even then) and Bush is not going to ask him. If there is one thing Bush respects (and no, it's not the Constitution) it's loyalty. Second, it makes no sense politically. If Cheney resigns before November, it looks like desperation. If he resigns after November (especially if, as seems increasingly likely, the GOP does VERY badly), it looks like a sign of weakness. Third, the only reason for Cheney resigning would be to replace him with someone who would then be the Republican front-runner for 2008. But are there any Republican presidential hopefuls dumb enough to climb aboard the sinking ship of the Bush Presidency? Doubtful.

Port Insecurity, Part VI

Turns out the Emir of Dubai, the head of the family that owns Dubai Ports World, is an old hunting buddy of OSAMA BIN LADEN! Where's Dick Cheney when we really need him? Actually, they were hunting with falcons, but still. Thanks to The Daily Kos.

In The Interest of Fairness...

Okay, if I'm going to continue to mock Jeff Gannon/Guckert, the fake journalist/male escort (and rest assured, I am), I pretty much have to acknowledge this story. However, it must be said in Tom Malin's defense that he has a better track record with telling the truth than either Gannon or Vice President Cheney.

CHENEY GOES OVERBOARD WITH TORT REFORM

The Vice President shot a "millionaire lawyer" from Austin while hunting in South Texas. "You're next, Reid," Cheney was heard to growl at startled onlookers.

The Plame Game

Okay, I have to admit, this surprised me. Cheney's former chief of staff, "Scooter" Libby, has apparently rolled over on his boss, telling a federal grand jury that Cheney "authorized" him to leak classified information (namely that Valerie Plame was a covert agent). If true, this means the Vice President ordered "Scooter" to break federal law. The ghost of Spiro Agnew can be heard howling around the gates of the Naval Observatory...
